Over the past two summers, the Cowboys have hit some home runs and acquired players from other major leaguers.Now they’ll try two more after signing linebacker Willie Harvey and cornerback Gareon Conley on Tuesday. Harvey led the UFL in tackles last season and was named the St. Louis BattleHawks first-team All-UFL performer. Conley, a former first-round pick of the Raiders in 2017, played three years in the NFL but tried to revive his football career with a standout season with the DC Defenders in the XFL.Over the past two seasons, the Cowboys have acquired return specialist KaVontae Turpin and then Brandon Aubrey from the USFL. Both earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in their first year with the Cowboys.
Harvey has been in and out of the NFL for the past five years. He went undrafted in 2019 but signed with the Browns, where he spent time on the practice squad and active roster. He played in just four games for Cleveland over the next three years.He later signed with the BattleHawks as part of the XFL in 2023 and remained with the team when it moved to the UFL that season.Harvey joins an improving linebacker group in 2023 led by veteran Eric Kendricks, who signed a free agent contract in March.
The Cowboys got DeMavion Overshwon back from injury and added draft pick Marist Liafau.Conley, who has four career NFL interceptions, made 26 starts in 31 games from 2017-19, mostly with the Raiders. He spent part of 2019 with the Texans.At cornerback, the Cowboys get Trevon Diggs back to pair with DaRon Bland. Jourdan Lewis is back as the slot corner, and the team has young depth in Nahshon Wright, Eric Scott Jr. and rookie Caelen Carson..
