Former Florida Football star Ricky Pearsall locks up contract with the 49ers
It has been an eventful week for former Florida Football wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. He has found himself in the background of drama surrounding fellow San Francisco 49er wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who is seeking a contract extension.
But for all the drama, Pearsall had yet to sign his own contract until yesterday when he finalized a four year deal with San Francisco.
Florida Football: Get Paid
Pearsall was the final player of San Francisco’ 2024 draft class to not have signed a rookie contract, but the details have been ironed out. He agreed to sign on the dotted line for a four year deal worth $12.5 million, all fully guaranteed.
As is the case with all NFL rookies, San Francisco will have the option for a fifth year down the road.
Pearsall was one of the surprise picks of the first round of the NFL Draft, as most people had him going in the second round. ESPN even called Pearsall this week one of the biggest “reaches” in the past draft. But perhaps knowing they won’t be able to keep both Aiyuk and Debo Samuel past the 2024 season ramped up the necessity for San Francisco to go out and get a wide receiver.
Gator fans will forever remember Pearsall for his Superman catch and for falling just short of 1,000 yards in 2023, which would have made him the first Gator in over 20 years to reach 1,000 yards receiving in a single season.
Only time will tell if he can live up to those expectations in the NFL.
