In my mind, the final nail in the coffin on Jack Suwinski’s current tenure with the Major League club was driven yesterday afternoon in a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. He simply can’t be here anymore, and it doesn’t really matter who replaces him.

In the eighth inning yesterday, Richie Palacios hit a sinking line drive to LF.

I have no idea what Suwinski is doing here. Josh Lowe isn’t even at third yet by the time Suwinski has the ball. Yet it takes an enormously long time for him to get the ball back to the cutoff guy.

Not only does the run score uncontested, Lowe practically walks home. Awful, inexcusable, unacceptable. All the negative adjectives. It takes about 4.5 seconds from this frame until Lowe reaches home. There is simply no excuse. Josh Bell would’ve gotten the ball in quicker. There’s clearly a book on Suwinski as a defender, and it’s that he can’t throw the baseball.

It’s also totally bizarre that they have third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes as the cutoff man on this play instead of Oneil Cruz, who has shown this year that he should be the cutoff guy for every play with how strong his arm is, but one thing at a time here.

As for Jack’s offense, he’s hitting .170/.259/.302 on the year and just .159/.229/.318 since being recalled on June 4. It all adds up to a player worth -1.1 fWAR on the season through just 64 games played, tied for fifth worst in baseball.

When it’s this bad, it doesn’t really matter what he did last year or who’s available at AAA. Anything is better than this, even Matt Gorski. I’ve been adamant for years that he isn’t part of any real solution and still feel that way, but it’s just gotten that bad for Jack this season.

Suwinski shouldn’t be with the team tonight in Cincinati as they take on the Reds, but I’m sure he will be. There isn’t much more to say about it than that.
