High school and transfer portal recruiting for the 2024 cycle effectively ended for Texas basketball and head coach Rodney Terry this week. Texas landed a portal commitment on June 27 from the top-ranked transfer available in the portal this summer, former Kansas State Wildcats junior forward Arthur Kaluma.

Texas basketball could continue momentum on the recruiting trail to build for 2025 and 2026 this summer

Kaluma committed to the Longhorns in the portal over the SMU Mustangs and Memphis Tigers. He is the sixth transfer to commit to the Longhorns in this portal cycle. Terry and staff also signed three high school commitments in the 2024 class, highlighted by five-star Dallas (TX) Link Academy shooting guard Tre Johnson.

After adding recent commitments to the projected roster for the 2024-25 season from portal and high school recruiting from three-star center Jamie Vinson and Kaluma, all scholarship spots are filled for the Longhorns this offseason. Texas can now turn their effort and attention on the recruiting trail to pursuing key 2025 and 2026 targets.

Texas has offered a handful of 2025 and 2026 recruits in the last few months. And we’re right around the corner from the start of summer and fall visits for key guys in those two recruiting classes.

Here’s a prediction of the next recruit to commit to the Longhorns after Terry nabbed Vinson and Kaluma in the last month.

The most recent offer the Longhorns extended to a recruit in the 2026 class was the highly touted four-star Melissa (TX) forward Austin Goosby. Texas offered the little brother of second-year football offensive tackle Trevor Goosby on June 22.

Texas joins the Florida State Seminoles, Kansas State, SMU, Sam Houston State, and Texas A&M Aggies among the six Division 1 schools that have offered Goosby early in his recruitment.

There are a few ins the Longhorns have in this recruitment after offering Goosby last week. First, that connection with his brother playing football at Texas could be a factor that gives Terry and staff another good selling point to Goosby.

It also helps that the Goosby family really likes Austin. Goosby lives just a few hours up I-35 from Austin in the DFW Metroplex, so going to school at Texas would be a manageable travel distance for his family and friends in the area.

Goosby seems to be really high on Texas since the Longhorns offered him this summer. He likes the idea of playing as a big guard or a wing in Terry’s up-tempo, free flowing offensive system and in transition.
