Very Sad News: “Speedy Recovery Champ” Coach Huge Freeze Officially Gives The End Of The Season Injury Update Of Young Top Cornerback…

Auburn football injury report: Tigers lose young cornerback for the season, other notes

Hugh Freeze on injury updates and how he feels entering season two as Auburn’s head coach.

Auburn defensive back Tyler Scott will miss the 2024 season after suffering an ACL injury during summer workouts, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said during a brief media availability ahead of Auburn’s AMBUSH event at Lake Martin on Tuesday evening.

“Unfortunately we lost Tyler Scott for the year with an ACL in workouts,” Freeze said Tuesday when asked about the health of Auburn’s roster.

Scott, who is entering his redshirt freshman season on The Plains, appeared in four games last fall at nickel and cornerback, recorded a pair of tackles in 2023.

Rated a 4-star prospect out of high school, Scott flirted with the transfer portal in April, but decided to return to Auburn for his second season of college football.

The loss of Scott is the second the Tigers have seen at the cornerback spot since the spring game as Colton Hood went on to transfer for Colorado. To help offset the pair of losses, Auburn added Colorado transfer defensive back Jahquez Robinson in June.

As it sits, Kayin Lee and Keionte Scott are the probable starters at cornerback. Who files in behind them, however, is up in the air and likely won’t be decided until after fall camp.

Other injury notes from Freeze:

  • Auburn junior kicker Alex McPherson is battling a gastrointestinal illness. “It’s not an injury, he’s just battling a health issue that’s taken him a while to really get back,” Freeze said, adding that he expects McPherson to play in 2024.
  • Auburn offensive lineman Tate Johnson is having a “little surgery, but it’s nothing that should cost him any time come fall camp,” Freeze said.
