Miami football recruiting remains hot with 4-star 2026 QB Dereon Coleman commit
The commitment from four-star 2026 quarterback Dereon Coleman on Wednesday continued the hot streak for the Miami football program in recruiting over the last month. Coleman is the third commitment in the 2026 Miami class. Linebacker Jordan Campbell and wide receiver Malachi Toney are the other 2026 Miami commits.
Miami has the fourth-ranked class nationally and second in the ACC behind Florida State per the On3 rankings. The Hurricanes are on pace to sign a top-10 recruiting class for four consecutive seasons from the 2023 through 2026 classes. Miami is expected to move into the top 10 2025 classes later this week.
Coleman is the 302nd prospect, 21st quarterback and 56th player in Florida per the 247Sports composite rankings. Per his 247Sports profile, Coleman has taken unofficial visits to Florida, Central Florida and Oklahoma. TCU and South Carolina have also offered Coleman.
The 247Sports scouting director Andrew Ivins praised Coleman for having a live arm with a lot of velocity with a quick release. Ivins observed that Coleman can escape pressure but needs to improve his internal clock and continue to develop physically.
Coleman completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,236 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions with 247 rushing yards and another four touchdowns as a sophomore in 2023. Those are impressive numbers for a sophomore starting on varsity with room to improve during his last two seasons of high school.
Coleman is the ninth-highest-rated QB to commit in the 2026 class and second in the ACC. Brady Smigiel who is committed to Florida State is the fifth-ranked QB in the 2026 class and top one pledged to an ACC school. Boston College is the only other ACC program with a 2026 QB commit in the top 66.
Miami should have more commitments on the way this week. Four-star 2025 prospects, safety Hylton Stubbs is making his commitment announcement on Thursday and center S.J. Alofaituli will state his collegiate destination on Friday. Miami would move into the top 10 2025 classes with commitments from Alofaituli and Stubbs.
