Five-star Jasper Johnson updates recruitment, recaps FIBA World Cup experience - Tar Heel Times - 7/20/2024

John Calipari and Arkansas basketball made the cut for another five-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. Jasper Johnson, the No. 12 overall player and No. 2 shooting guard in the cycle, announced his final five schools on Wednesday, which included the Razorbacks. AlabamaKentuckyLouisville and North Carolina also made the cut.

The Lexington (Ky.) announced his decision with a post to his official X (formerly Twitter) account. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound lefty checks in as a composite five-star prospect with a 0.9959 rating, which ranks No. 10 in the 2025 class according to 247Sports’ industry-generated Composite Rankings.

Recently, Johnson wrapped up his summer action on the grassroots circuit at Nike’s EYBL Peach Jam. During the event, 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins caught up with the talented guard prospect and asked him about his recruitment.

Johnson revealed his list cut was expected to come soon, and he also mentioned Arkansas as one of the schools aggressively recruiting him of late.

“Calipari has been recruiting me since he was at Kentucky,” Johnson told Jenkins. “I have not been able to see the school. He tells me he wants me to be one-and-done, so that is good to hear.”

With his list of schools now down to a final five, it’s very possible Johnson will set an official visit date to Fayetteville in the near future. As for a decision, Johnson told Jenkins it could come soon, but he’s being smart and not rushing the process.

“Maybe in the next couple of weeks or months, but I’m not sure,” Johnson said. “I’m really looking at the feel of each program and trusting that aspect when it comes to picking a school.”

Here’s what 247Sports national basketball recruiting analyst Adam Finkelstein had to say about Johnson in his recent scouting report:

“Johnson is a southpaw scoring guard who has spurts of extreme tough shot-making when he gets hot. He has a super soft natural touch and is very crafty around the lane with a deep bag of runners, floaters, and other types of finishes, in addition to the jumpers and step-backs he’s capable of making from the perimeter.

Physically, Johnson is lean, but he’s very long with a recorded +5 wingspan. In addition to building up his body, he also needs to learn to impact the game more when the ball isn’t in his hands, or more specifically, when he’s not on one of his scoring sprees.”
