Jerry Jones offers head-scratching update on CeeDee Lamb contract talks

The confusion and frustration that looms for Dallas Cowboys fans over the contract holdout involving star wideout CeeDee Lamb was unlikely to improve with Jerry Jones’ latest comments on the topic.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Jones was asked if he’s optimistic about completing a deal with Lamb, who has been a holdout throughout training camp thus far. The short version of his answer? “I think I am,” as The Athletic’s Jon Machota revealed.

“I think I am. And when I say that, it doesn’t sound too promising,” Jones said. “The facts are that I believe we’ll come together. I don’t want to speak for him. That’s what I’m trying not to do. But we wouldn’t have offered him what we’ve offered him if we didn’t want him to be here.”

As ESPN’s Todd Archer reported, Jones also said the Cowboys are “in good shape there” and that the two sides are having “promising talks.”

To summarize, Jones says the two sides are having good talks, he thinks that he’s optimistic about getting a deal done and believes it’ll all work out. None of those things are bound to leave Cowboys fans feeling all that optimistic with Week 1 just under three weeks away.

At this point, legitimate updates on Lamb’s contract talks with the Cowboys have been few and far between, but the rumblings around the league and reports point to optimism that a deal will be done before Week 1. If that is the case, Jones is doing a great job of not giving away too much to the public.
