Jack Driscoll loses his spot on the Miami Dolphins roster
When the Miami Dolphins were awarded Grant DuBose as a waiver claim on Wednesday, the NFL team had to release a player who had survived the big roster reduction from the preseason total of 90 to the regular-season limit of 53 on Tuesday.
That player turned out to be former Auburn offensive tackle Jack Driscoll. Driscoll had signed with Miami as a free agent on March 18 after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Driscoll joined Philadelphia in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played in 54 regular-season and four playoff games with 17 starts for the Eagles.
Driscoll’s primary duty was backing up right tackle Lane Johnson, a five-time Pro Bowler. In 2023, all but eight of Driscoll’s 172 offensive snaps came in three games when Johnson was dealing with injuries.
Driscoll made four starts in 2020, one in 2021, two in 2022 and one in 2023 at right tackle. He also started eight games at right guard in 2021 and one at left tackle in 2022.
With the Dolphins, Driscoll started the first and third preseason games at center, a position he had not played for Philadelphia. During the three preseason games this month, Driscoll was on the field for 120 offensive snaps and 15 special-teams plays.
A former Park Crossing High School standout who played one season at Miles College, DuBose spent his rookie season on the Green Bay practice squad after joining the Packers as a seventh-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. Green Bay waived DuBose on Tuesday.
