Texas football scored its biggest commitment of the 2025 recruiting cycle on Aug. 24 with the announcement of five-star safety Jonah Williams.

Williams’ commitment came only a day after four-star offensive tackle Nick Brooks announced his commitment to Texas.

The safety and linebacker from Ball High School in Galveston chose the Longhorns over Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU and USC and became the 18th commitment for head coach Steve Sarkisian in the class of 2025. Brooks chose Texas over home school Georgia, USC, Iowa and Alabama.

The decisions came shortly after a quiet week in Texas recruiting. Five-star offensive tackle prospect Michael Fasusi had Texas in his final four schools but ultimately committed to rival Oklahoma on Aug. 21. Meanwhile, defensive back Kade Phillips flipped his commitment to LSU, leaving Williams as the only safety prospect committed to the Longhorns.

Williams ranks as the No. 10 overall class of 2025 recruit, as well as first in his position and third in Texas, according to On3. A flexible player, Williams was a star on both sides of the field in his junior season. On offense, he hauled in 20 catches for 474 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns while making 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and four interceptions on defense. He also made three pick-sixes and returned two punts and two kicks for scores.

His future teammate, Brooks, ranks No. 208 nationwide on On3. He is ranked No. 17 in the offensive tackle position and No. 30 in the state of Georgia.

Brooks committed to Texas for the opportunity of playing right off the bat.

“The No. 1 thing for me is the chance to play and compete for early playing time,” Brooks told On3. “NIL is important too, and that would be No. 2 on my list. Then it comes down to relationships, family and how I feel about the school. Family is very important to me, so what school makes me and my family feel best will be a factor.”

Two other five-star prospects could commit to Texas by the end of August. Receiver Jaime Ffrench will select between Texas, Tennessee, LSU and Miami on Aug. 30, while receiver Michael Terry III will choose between the Longhorns, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Oregon before the start of his high school senior season.
