“It’s true” – Player reveals snubbing Leeds United for ‘very big club’ in January
Leeds United were one of the clubs to have missed out on signing Daniel Svensson in the winter market. He completed a loan move to Borussia Dortmund from FC Nordsjælland on deadline day.
Last November, we covered claims from Sweden that the Whites were keen on securing his services. It was also stated he could pick Leeds over Liverpool in the mid-season window.
On January 23rd, Sky Deutschland journalist Philipp Hinze stated Leeds were ahead of RB Leipzig in the race for the left-back’s signature.
The Championship side, Leipzig and other clubs lost out to Borussia Dortmund in the end. Ruhr Nachrichten have been speaking to Svensson and he confirmed other clubs had shown interest before joining BVB.
The newspaper local to the German club mentioned Leeds, Benfica and Leipzig as the clubs that missed out on him. The 23-year-old stated he only wanted to join Borussia Dortmund after their interest became concrete.

“It’s true, there was interest from other clubs. But when it became concrete with Borussia Dortmund, I just wanted to come here. It’s a very big club, one of the biggest teams in Germany. When I was offered the chance to play here, I really wanted to do it,” he said.
Dortmund are currently 10th in the league table and their poor run in the Bundesliga saw them replace manager Nuri Şahin with Niko Kovač at the start of this month. Meanwhile, they have made it to last 16 of the Champions League.
The Sweden international claims Dortmund’s insists season wasn’t an obstacle for him to join them.
“BVB are such a big and good club that it didn’t influence my decision,” he said.
“A club like Dortmund can always come back. Almost all teams have a season here and there where they don’t do as well as they would like. But I know that we will come back and hopefully we can do that now after the win against Union Berlin.”
