Tottenham is currently negotiating with a “world class” manager who once defeated Spurs 7–2, and he wants a position in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou appears to be leaving Tottenham already.

With Tottenham in 16th place in the Premier League, Daniel Levy already seems to have made up his mind, even if the Australian may still lead Spurs to UEFA Europa League triumph.

The north Londoners might have actually been in a relegation fight in a different season, when the bottom three were of higher caliber. That would have been a disastrous scenario, and it appears that Levy was enough upset to make a move.

As the search for a replacement for Ange Postecoglou continues, Tottenham has reportedly begun negotiations with Niko Kovac, according to BILD in Germany.

Niko Kovac is approached by Tottenham.
According to the German news source, Spurs have now inquired about the German, who isn’t particularly connected to Borussia Dortmund.

Kovac was appointed by the Bundesliga team in January to replace Nuri Sahin, although it was thought that his job would be more of a temporary one than a permanent one.

The Berlin native is only contracted to Borussia Dortmund for the 2025–2026 season before the contract expires, according to BILD. The Signal Iduna Park team even agreed to terms of a possible dismissal, which is hardly encouraging. Should he be fired before June 2026, the former Croatia manager would be entitled to about £2 million.

According to the source, Tottenham believes Kovac, who has been referred to as “world class,” is a manager who might be successful in the Premier League because of his “passionate, intense, and aggressive playing philosophy.”

It’s interesting to note that BILD also claims that the 53-year-old is keen to manage in the Premier League at some point, so a Spurs offer might be alluring.

After making an impression with Croatia and Eintracht Frankfurt, Kovac—who had previously lauded Harry Kane—signed a three-year contract at the Allianz Arena and was awarded the honor of managing Bayern Munich in April 2018.

Though he was fired after a 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in November 2019, the Tottenham target was still in time to achieve Bayern Munich’s second-largest European victory in their history, which coincidentally occurred against Spurs.

When Bayern Munich defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham 7-2 in the UEFA Champions League group stage in October 2019, some supporters would remember the German powerhouses tearing up north London.

Four of the seven goals were scored by Serge Gnabry, and Pochettino was fired in November 2019—just one month later.

In a bizarre turn of events, when negotiations started, the man who contributed to the Argentine’s dismissal may end up taking Postecoglou’s place at Tottenham.
