Ange Postecoglou, the head coach of Tottenham, has lamented demands for his team to “lose a game” last season while still defending his record.
WHAT OCCURRED?
When Tottenham played Manchester City in the final stretch of the previous season, they had the opportunity to offer their north London rivals Arsenal a shot at Premier League triumph. Some Spurs supporters claimed that the club intentionally threw the game to deny the Gunners a chance to finish first. Even though his team lost a fiercely contested match 2-0, the Australian was visibly shocked at the moment. It appears from his remarks on Friday that he hasn’t forgotten the call to play for defeat.

In an effort to retain his position, Postecoglou has recently become more defensive and retaliates on supporters and reporters. The Australian made the observation that although Spurs’ fifth-place performance from the previous season was not very noteworthy, the media and fans consider the clubs currently competing for that position to be “brilliant”.
ANGE POSTECOGLOU’S WORDS
“I love the frenzy around finishing fifth this year,” Postecoglou remarked. Don’t you think they’re all brilliant? Last year, we came in fifth. Why is our fifth-place finish such a disaster? You should ask yourselves and everyone else that. I was requested to lose a game about this time last year, and I was mistaken for wanting to win.
“But it’s hardly a positive narrative, even though we placed fifth last year. It would be more accurate to say that my tenure has been and remains a disaster. I just think that the kind of hysteria that is surrounding what’s happening at the moment is all premeditated for a certain outcome. Hopefully we can defy that.”
ANGE POSTECOGOLU’S FUTURE?
Postecoglou’s time was up in north London, according to all indications. His Spurs team is now in 16th place in the Premier League, and they can only qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League. On Thursday, they play Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their semi-final.
